The winter has finally arrived and obviously the way your printer operates differs due to different temperatures and conditions. We want you to take advantage of the best printing conditions so follow our 3 Winter Printer Tips!
Tip 1 – Printer Temperature
You just got your new printer and probably from a cold-weather area, before powering the printer be sure to let the printer warm to room temperature. Turning it on right away could be harmful due to the different temperature between the printer and where you are setting it up. Remove the printer from the shipping material and let it sit for about two hours before powering it on. This allows it to reach room temperature, and gives internal condensation a chance to evaporate.
Tip 2 – Static Build Up.
Static build-up can have a dramatic effect on print quality because laser printers use static to charge the drum and attract toner from the drum to the paper, reason why the presence of excess static can interfere with the print process and cause problems such as background haze, light or dark streaks, faded or extra-bold print or even light and dark blotches.
What can you do?
- When maintaining laser printers during the winter, use anti-static wipes to clean inside the machine as well as the outside panels. This is not guaranteed to completely eliminate static, but it helps.
- Have a stock of static-sensitive components during the winter months because you can damage other components when it discharges. Such items are: High Voltage Power Supply, Transfer Roller, DC Controller, and Laser Toner.
Tip 3 – Save Energy
Obviously during the winter you are always looking for ways to save on your energy bill. Be sure you have Energy Star® Laser Printers such as the HP Color LaserJet 4700dn or the Brother HL-2140 Personal Laser Printer for example. Another way to save energy is to turn off your laser printer when not using and make sure you get all your printing task done at the same time to take advantage of the warming up process and the fact that you turned it on. Last thing you can do to save is taking advantage of our Winter Discounts and save when purchasing your replacement or stock toner cartridge.
